About Us

Background information

The Sanitation and Hygiene Education Initiative (SAHEI) is a Nigerian non- religious, non-governmental, non-political, non-discriminatory, and not-for-profit organization incorporated with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) in November 2014. It is an organization that facilitates, advocates, and raises awareness for access to improved services among vulnerable individuals. The organization specializes in the areas of WASH, Protection/GBV, Empowerment/livelihood, Waste Management, Health and Nutrition, climate change and supports enrolment of children to school. The organization has experienced staff that are equipped with knowledge, skills, and experience in humanitarian response. The organization’s staff work all over the liberated LGA’s of Borno State. The organization was established with a goal to promote wellbeing of individuals and enhance sustainable development project to alleviate the suffering of conflict affected people and the vulnerable groups of people in Northeastern Nigeria. In pursuit of its mission, the Organization works with partners to execute programs aimed at improving the livelihood and living standards of vulnerable children, women and girls, men, widows, internally displaced persons, and persons living with disabilities.

Who We Are

SAHEI has been delivering humanitarian services since 2004, focusing on building resilience among conflict-affected individuals — especially widows caring for orphans and malnourished children who need food, shelter, education, livelihood, safe water, sanitation, and good hygiene.

Our livelihood center in Maiduguri, Borno State, has graduated and empowered over 300 skilled widows and orphans with income-generating activities and starter packages. The Board of Trustees, made up of seasoned professionals, provides oversight and ensures sustainable, ethical, and accountable governance.

Our strategies focus on identification, response, and mitigation — enabling beneficiaries to survive, grow, and build resilience through a range of thematic areas.
